About the building: 'Fallingwater’ is the iconic modernist house designed in 1935 by legendary architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Constructed in 1936–39 and located in rural southwestern Pennsylvania. Despite its bold design the building sits in harmony with the surrounding natural landscape, on top of an active waterfall that flows beneath the house. Wright's love of Japanese architecture is also clear to see in many details of the building. 'Fallingwater' was designed as a weekend home for the family of Liliane Kaufmann and her husband, Edgar J. Kaufmann. The house was designated as a United States National Historic Landmark in 1966.
